HOW TO FINISH LOTOJA

Listed below are four basic "how-to-finish" suggestions. In addition, be sure to read the advice provided by five LoToJa veterans.

  1. Get a lot of base miles on your legs and rear in the months leading up to LoToJa. Prepare and train for the climbs and ride a few centuries. Participate in other races and events. You need to know how your body responds to several hours in the saddle.
  2. Ride within your limits. Don't go too hard early on. A lot can happen in 200-plus miles, so be patient!
  3. Dress properly. Bring clothing that you can add or take off -- so you stay dry and comfortable throughout the day. LoToJa ascends two mountain passes that are well over 7,000 feet elevation. We strongly encourage you to bring clothing that will protect you in all weather conditions - despite the forecast. If you don't believe us, ask someone that raced in 2005.
  4. Eat and drink constantly!!! Keep your body fueled with sufficient hydration and the right food!
